I reformatted my friends laptop for him and reinstalled WinME (don't ask why...) sucessfully but now the laptop is set to 640 x 480 resolution and 16 bit colours because it is using default drivers that don't allow it to be changed.
I've looked on the HP website for specs on the laptop and drivers that I can install but couldn't find any. Is there a program or default driver that I can install that will allow resolutions of say 800 x 600 or greater and true colour?
Cheers.

Pacman,
You might try SiSoft Sandra, for its computer properties module to find out what card or chip is in the machine.
By the same token, with Order No, or Serial No, HP should tell you what the Vid card or chip is.
Without knowing that, you are taking a shot in the dark, even at driverguides.
Does the card come up at initial boot screen? If the fullscreen logo comes up, you should be able to disable it from BIOS, and see what the vid chip is. You gotta look quick, though. No prob at this point to do a multiple Control-Alt-Delete, till you can read the whole vid card/chip ID. You are not yet into Win loading, no prob with scandisk running.
(Mebbe he's just too cheap/poor, to buy a newer OS. They ain't cheap.)
Cheers,

I've managed to track down a driver pack on HP's website however the link is dead so I'm going to ring up their technical support line and see if I can get a copy sent to me.

I know I read somewhere to use the manufacturer's drivers, guess they are different for each model.
