  1. I am trying to make a DVD from an avi video clip/movie. In order to use the TMGenc dvd authoring program I am first trying to use TMGenc program to convert the avi to mpeg. The size of the avi is 651 MB (682,962,944 bytes) approx. 1hr and change. The glitch is when I try to use TMGenc to convert this avi it says the size of the video exceeds 4.7 GB capacity of the DVD and is 278 minutes???? Why the change in size or am I just doing something wrong. I have gone over this several times and cannot figure out what I am doing wrong.

TMPGEnc sometimes can't correctly detect the length of a file. Use the select range option to set the real end and it should be ok.

    Hi deanst2,

I'm gonna put my money on the AVI having VBR MP3 audio... Use either AVICodec or GSpot to confirm.

If so, post back and I'll advise how to deal with it.

If not, post back anyway in case there's something else we can help with...

  5. Thanks for the input. It does not seem to have mp3 audio. Also - what I tried was to use Nero to create a TS folder, which it did. Then when I went to use the TMGenc dvd authoring program I was told the "combined audio and video bit rate exceeded limits for normal 4.7 gb dvd??? The length of this movie clearly was not exceeding 4.7. Am I missing something here??? Still looking for answers.

First, you have to give a lot more detail on what you are doing as it is not easy to guess. Tell us the details of the source file, hwo you converted it and what settings etc.
Second, read that error message a little more carefully. My interpretation is the the bitrate of your audio+video combined is too high for DVD standards, not that the file is too big.

That's right! Now, what does that mean and how can i adjust it so the bitrate of the audio and video combined is not too high for DVD standards.

What I am trying to do is take a movie recorded as an .avi and put it on DVD. I first have to convert it into proper format. That is what I was trying to do with TMGenc. That didn't work so I used nero, which produced a format that the TMGenc DVD authoring program could work with but then I got the bitrate statement noted above when I tried to burn it.

Nero's encoder is far from the best and will not produce very good quality output. Why did it not work with TmpGenc. Have you tried following any of the many guides under CONVERT in the HOW TO section on the left of this page.

This is wah the error message said. How do I avoid having the combined bitrates too high for DVD standards?

I would try the "ignore" button and see if it plays. Otherwise try a different encoder, as previously suggested.
