I am trying to do something that, I think, should be straightforward!

What I would like to do is create a new DVD, which is made up of files that I've downloaded (.mpg, .avi, etc.) plus tracks of a number of existing DVDs.

Once I have assembled all the files, I plan to use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create the VIDEO_TS folder and files to burn onto a disc.

The main problem I have is that somewhere along the way of processing the existing DVDs I lose the sound that should go along with the pictures!

If you will bear with me, I will list the steps I've tried and what happens.....

    1) Used DVD DeCrypter, in 'File F' mode, to create a set of files on my HDD.
    2) Used WinDVD to play the files created by DVD DeCrypter - There was no sound
    3) Used Nero to burn the files, created by DVD DeCrypter, to a disc - The sound was OK on this

    4) Used DVD Shrink on the files ripped by DVD Decrypter, with Re-author option, selected 2 chapters and created a set of files of my HDD.
    5) Used WinDVD to play the files created by DVD Shrink - There was no sound
    6) Used Nero to burn the files created by DVD Shrink, to a disc - The sound was OK on this

    7) Used TMPGEnc DVD Author on the files ripped by DVD Decrypter, selected 2 chapters and created a set of files of my HDD.
    8) Used WinDVD to play the files created by TMPGEnc DVD Author- There was no sound
    9) Used TMPGEnc DVD Author to burn the files created by TMPGEnc DVD Author, to a disc - There was no sound

Can anyone suggest where it is going wrong?

Or, a better way to do what I am trying to do?

When you say you play the output files in WinDVD (or whatever) which file do you point the player at (the correct one is the FIRST .ifo in the folder, this will also enable the chapters etc.).

Dont bother ripping first with DVDDecrypter UNLESS you have problems with Shrink (rare..but does happpen occasionaly)..so open the DVD with Shrink..go RE-Author, select the footage you require and output to a folder...burn ..but first point your softawre DVD palyer at the FIRST .ifo in the file.

I had been pointing WinDVD at the VIDEO_TS folder. However, I've just tried pointing at the first (and several other) .IFO files and not a peep comes out of the speakers!

This, really, is the secondary problem. The main issue is getting a version, stored on my HDD, that I can use with DVD Author (or something else) to pull together these ripped tracks and other .mpg files I already have!
