  1. I have several short video clips I took using my Canon S1 Digital Camera. I took them at the 640x480 resolution (though I'm not sure that should have a bearing on this problem one way or the other).

Anyway, when I download movie clips from my digital camera to my computer, they have an .avi extension. So I figured I should be able to use TMPGEnc to convert them to .m2v and .wav files just like I have been able to do with other AVI files. But whenever I try to select one of these files, I get an error message that says "can not open or unsupported". What gives? Do I need to do something else to the files before TMPGEnc will like them? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this would be much appreciated, as I have quite a few long clips on there I want to put on a DVD.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I bet ya dollars to donuts they're MPEG-4 avi files. Install the Quicktime filter for TMPGENC and you should be able to open them no problemo.

    If in doubt, Google it.

Quicktime for a guess...you should have a CD with your camera with QT (or whatever avi format they are saved in) ..also check the framerate.

I just got my Canon S60 yesterday. My incomplete search for MJPEG and Quicktime editing tools for the Canon movies has led me to

    TMPGENC with
    - PicVideo http://www.jpg.com/picvideomjpeg.htm
    or
    - Morgan-Multimedia http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/technicalsV3.htm
    or
    Quicktime Reader plug-in for TMPGEnc
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/qtreader_for_tmpgenc.cfm

    or
Windows Media Encoder 9 + Quicktime
install QuickTime Pro or QuickTime Alternative
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_players/quicktime_alternative.cfm
and then convert the .MOV files to .WMV using Windows Media Encoder 9
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

    Another lead
    RAD Video tools.

Maybe you can help me finish this project.
