  1. Well, this is disappointing. I'm trying to transfer all my families old VHS tapes on to DVD. I initially got the Adaptec VideOH! PCI, but it had a few problems. Most notably it could only capture in Sonic MyDVD, and it didn't actually do realtime MPEG2 captures. It spent nearly as much time post-capture doing a conversion to MPEG2 before I could do any editing. So I decided to wait for the ATI AIW x600Pro figuring it would be nice to get a slight upgrade on my graphics card and enable PCI-E bandwidth for capture (even though I don't need it yet).

The AIW x600Pro captures in realtime and works fine with 3rd party software like Nero VisionExpress... plus it comes bundled with Pinnacle Studio. The problem is video quality. The image is more grainy and solid colors seem to hum on screen. Doing an A/B of a capture from the Adaptec vs. a capture from the ATI, it's obvious that the Adaptec is much cleaner. Before I decided to wait for the x600, I was on the fence about a Hauppage WinUSB or WinPVR. Would either of those be a better solution? I'm just looking for something that can do realtime MPEG2 captures and work with 3rd party software without sacrificing any quality.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check out www.digitalfaq.com for detailed ati capture settings guides. Do you use ati multimedia software for capturing. If so don't use ati's presets. Check out the above link for much better settings.
