  1. Hello,

Im new here, and im new with svcd stuff so i have a few questions. I would like to make a svcd movie out of a mpeg movie file. I already know how to do that and it works pretty well. BUT! I would like to make a dvd menu with it. I used both pinnacle studio 9 and Nero express to do this but somehow it doesnt seem to work. I do get a menu but i can only choose chapters with the buttons 1 to 9, not with the arrows on my remote. Also both pinnacle and nero express dont seem to make the chapters cause when i select, for example, chapter one and want to go to the next chapter using the "next chapter arrow" on my remote it just stops and returns to the menu. Is there any possibility to solve these problems? I used various guides on this website but i havent found one that notes these issues. Pleasseee help cause i want it to work so bad . Thanks in advance!

  2. VCDEasy get's all the votes around here, for authoring (S)VCD's.
I understand it does work well, although it's not easy to master. Check the guides for more.

I don't think you can make interactive menus for svcd like you can for dvd. Sure you can make menus but as you have noticed you still have to enter a number on your remote to get to your video. If someone has figured a way to do what you want hopefully they will reply but honestly I don' tthink you can.

As a side note I used to burn tons of svcds but I am soooooo glad I purchased a dvd burner. You can do more things with dvd

  4. What you really need to do is to make a 1/2d1(CVD) DVD . These are perfectly compliant dvd's with only half the res 356 against 720, for a STD dvd. They can be authored and burnt in most dvd packages and ALL YOUR CHAPTERS WILL work as expected. svcd chapters are quite limited compared to dvd chapters (as you have fouind out)

  6. I am having a similiar problem using the same software (Pin. Studio 9). I setup the menus and everything fine, they appear to work in the preview mode. When I burn the project in SVCD the menus come up and everything but they are totally unresponsive (both on pc and set top dvd player (panasonic)). I have also tried burning just a regular VCD and have the same thing. Originally I was trying to author on Roxio Videowave 7 Prof so I switched to Pin. Studio 9 to see if the program was the issue, and have continued to use it instead of Roxio because so far I like it better. However, I am still not able to produce any responsive menus.

  7. The best you can do is fake it.

Create Menu1 with Item1 highlighted. Play launches Video1. Next goes to Menu2, which is identical to Menu1 except with Item2 highlighted, Play launches Video2, etc. You can even animate or use motion buttons to get fancy.

I used TSCV to create some SVCD menus, prog is a little buggy but gives some good effects. No longer being updated. Ultimately, I decided it just wasn't worth the hassle.

  8. re previous answer instead of making an SVCD, use you r software to create a CVD/ 1/2D1 (D1 is full dvd res eg 720x576) 1/2d1 is 356x576) with your mpeg assets in this format they can be authored and burnt as a DVD, in any dvd authoring package. The res is slightly lower than svcd BUT you do get proper chapters, as a std DVD.
Downside.. slight loss of resolution, must be burnt as a DVD not as an SVCD
upside full dvd menus and chaptering .. plenty of software availableto do that.
