  1. How do you grab a frame of video to import to an image editor to convert to jpeg? I don't see any options to do this in vlc or mplayer. I tried <prtscrn> but the image was blank.

    thnks

edit: my post wasn't getting any views so I had to make a more interesting subject title

  2. There is a program called AVI Demux http://avidemux.berlios.de/ that does this well. I think you can do it in mplayer by using the dump stream options, but AVI Demux does it much better.

You cannot hit PRTSCRN for an overlay. Video plays back in overlay mode, outside the reach of the standard graphics range.

Use VIRTUALDUB. I'm sure there's a guide for it somewhere. I know FOR A FACT that there are multiple posts on this in the forum. Do a search if you need more detailed help.

Use WINE or something to run the program in Linux.

avidemux works well, its like vdub for linux but also exports to mpeg 2. I have had some problems with it and the video quality, but that may just be me. There is also a program called image2mpeg I believe that will convert jpgs to m2v.

  5. Hey avidemux2 worked great. I had never tried this app before and I was surprised how similar it is to vdub- that's great news. I thought that it was a commandline tool.

ps sorry for the bogus subject title
