  1. Hi, I'm new to the forum. I've been a filmmaker for 10 years, and I've decided to join the digital age. I just bought a G5 with dual processing and Final Cut Express 2. I have a few things that are in mpeg format. On my iDVD it only allows .mov files. Can someone help me? I tried some called ffmpeg, but it didn't seem to work. I have no doubt it failed due to my lack of computer skills. Could someone walk me through burning mpegs or perhaps changing mpegs to .mov files for iDVD?

You should probably post this in the Mac forum, maybe a mod can move it. But, welcome to our forum. We have a few Mac fanatics here. Just hang around a little while and they'll come out of the woodwork.

iDvd does not accept MPEG1 or MPEG2 files.

Option 1 is to export the file with quicktime to DV with 48kHz audio and then import the resultant file into iDvd.

Option 2 is to get DVD Studio Pro ($499) which accepts MPEG files and is a great authoring app.

Option 3 is to get Sizzle (Free) which accepts MPEG2 files.

You probably should get Toast 6. It can burn your MPEG2 files to a video DVD. It also can export the MPEG2 to DV for use in FCE and iDVD.

  6. Does Sizzle need an application? I tried doiing another .dmg file before and said it needed something to open with and I didn't know what application it needed. Does Sizzle have the same issue? Or Toast 6 for that matter?

  7. Oh wait I see Toast 6 is not free, nevermind. But still does Sizzle need an application?

  8. Use Disc Utility from your Applications>Utilities folder to mount or burn Sizzle images.
