"I tend to believe that it may have been quite EASY for Thade to fly a pod. "

Maybe, but not to FIX one crashed at the bottem of a pond (filled with water and probably rusted).

"...we don't know how many pods were possibly still intact in the ship..its reasonably safe to assume none"

Since the wreakage of the mothership was so old that ROCK had started to form on it, I agree.

"but again IT IS THE MOVIES. "

True. But for $9, THEY should have to write the script - not us!!!

  3. I really like this version of the “Planet of the Apes”.

When watching the old version of the POA IMHO I felt that I didn’t get as much information about the evolution and reason regarding the talking Apes, only that future Apes bore a talking Ape/child. And of course in “Battle of the Planet of the Apes”, he took over the Earth.

Even in their later films, a paradox exists, because it never showed how the talking Apes evolved in to existence. Yes, the talking monkey of the future populated the Earth and brought us to where the first movie begins, but it is still a paradox. How did that talking Ape evolve? Future/past, I don’t know…

In this version of POA it is plain to see that the monkeys of the films present (beginning) were being experimented on (conditioning, training and I assume DNA reprogramming). That during an EM storm space pods were sent forward in to time (not purposely) and that Mark Wahlberg followed the first pod in to the storm which left him in the future. So the cause/reason for the talking monkeys were the experiments from the mother ship Oberon, and when Seymous took over the ship, he either crashed the Oberson and survived or escaped in a pod (cause and effect) and took over the Earth.

At the end of the movie when Mark Wahlberg crashes in what looked like Washington DC, on the time stamp in the pod it shows that he didn’t go back far enough in time, but far enough to witness a changed Earth and a reason for a sequel.

  5. man oh man .. quite the post here

    ohhh kdiddy

i think the name of the first monkey is CMOS .. it is how its pronounced and i woulnt be surprise it thats the spelling

as far as the whole plot thing goes i have no idea whats going on but heres a few questions

the apes came from the experimental apes .. but where did the humans come from... CMOS and his band supposedly killed them off. or maybe he didnt

and how does one not know that the planet wasnt a pangea era planet, with continents almost in position like ours, with two mooons .. lots could have happend that could result in losing a second moon...

so in a way he could have gone far enough into the past to have effected the future and gave monekys enough pull to not need to evolve into humans

  6. Of course no one has questioned the two major flaws in the movie, over and above the ludicrous ending:

    1. Where did the horses come from? There weren't any on the spaceship.
    2. Where did all the various ape types come from? Only chimps were on the spaceship.

  7. A little research was needed, so I went to the Planet of the Apes web site.

Interesting information was given about the time line…

    POTA = Earth

Year of the EM storm = 2029

    Genetically engineered apes.

The ending that was shown and what the web site states is that Thade repaired Leo’s Pod and return to Earth before Leo. How did Thade repair the Pod? With Pericles help and data from the Oberon.

Anymore is too much information for me to scribe here.

On that website note that where it discusses Thade repairing the pod and returning to Earth it lists it as a hypothesis, not a fact. There is no definitive explanation to the ending and there won't be until the sequal comes out, that's the whole point. Fox exec's have gone on record saying the ending is just for shock value and is left open to interpretation. http://www.zap2it.com/movies/news/story/0,1259,---7881,00.html

I am sure Burton's claim that the ending makes perfect sense to him is just a ploy to get people to continue discussing the ending to keep interest in the movie.

Xesdeeni my interpretation was that the POTA and Earth were separate but equal planets, not parallel universes of each other but just so similiar that anything that can happen on one planet could happen to the other. But anyway, evolution of species would be the same on both planets if untampered.
Horses would still evolve and other species of monkeys would as well. I pictured the genetically enchanced monkeys breeding with various existing monkey species when they first liberated themselves from the humans on Oberon. Also I can't remember but didn't the movie give some explanation about this?

kr0n0s: The movie covered that. When the monkeys took over not all the humans were killed. Some escaped and lived in hiding.

No just major flaws in your assumptions that there wasnt any indigenous life on the planet.

And the official spelling is SEMOS, so now we can lay that to rest as well.

rally: the original series movie evolved/centered around more to reflect on the current state of social affairs in America at the time. It wasn't the intented to be a true sci-fi flick.

Right. Just like all these questions we've been asking. We should be making up whatever the filmakers forgot to put in.

Based on that, I say that Marky landed not in Washington DC, but a new "Planet of the Apes" theme park that was built while he was away.
The theme park was based on the movie, and he returned to Earth just far enough into the future for it to have opened. The ape cops were arresting him for sneaking in w/o paying.

Or how about this: Marky had sex with Helena (though, like many other things, they didn't show this part). After he left, she had their manape love child. That child grew up and, seeking answers about his dad, repaired the pod and went to Earth. Yeah, thats the ticket!
Thade followed in his own pod made of spare Oberon parts and powered by bananna skins. When he got to Earth, he waited until the apes there had evolved to the point where their vocal cords could produce speech. Then he started a war against manape.

Manape, meanwhile, had gotten into the film business, and was working on the sequel to POTA, the working title of which was "Monkey Business".

Boy, this new way of thinking about movies is going to save me some bucks!

Now... if only I could write music.

Making what up...so you are saying it was a desolate barren planet until Oberon arrived??...the one orangutan spoke of how they traveled to the rainforest for vacation, did we bring the rainforests as well???..so I think its a pretty SAFE bet that there was indeed other life on this planet before Oberon crashed into it.

Yeah, and we could go on with Tom Cruse as a human selling monkey love to his friends… But a send Arnold (muscle man) through time to kill the manape a la to terminate a monkey… and have him running through the rainforest and desert sand...

  14. ...but all through history, Bruce Willis keeps popping in and out of key events, shouting "There are a hell of a lot more than 12 monkeys! Yippie ky-ay-ay blah blah blah.."

When a TV series wants to keep an "Ace in the hole" to spark interest enough to be renewed for another season, it's called a "Cliffhanger" and BTW, it is EXACTLY what's going on with this movie. Thew wanted to annoy people so much with this unexplained ending that they would DEMAND a sequel to explain themselves. When it happens, I think everyone will agree with me, the explaination will not make much sense, and will piss people off even further (because, naturally, the explaination will take an entire movie to tell (if done properly))
    The POA sequel SHOULD be:
    1. detailed info about how/when/why Thade does the shit he does
    2. show the bloody war if, indeed this washington DC-like place is our earth, and/or
    3. show old Thade changing stuff
    4. herald Thade as hero, for saving the apes and, likely, eliminating humans
    5. end the movie, yet again, with Marky arriving and being arrested, his fate to be decided in POA 3

But, of course, it won't be. It'll be all Marky, shit-for-an-explaination, and more ape revolutions that Marky can get in on.

Unless you rent the DVD and listen to Burton claim not to understand why so many didn't get the ending.

He admits he wanted to leave room for a sequel, but He seems to think the ending made sense.

leebo, go watch the movie again before you make another useless, senseless post. At the dinner table at Ari's house, when Thade was late, The orangutan with his female chimp friend, comes in. He mentions that they just came back from vacation in the rainforest, and the female says, "all we did was lay around all day, how boring".

Ok this I can handle... evoultion is a random process (with several no random pressures). The chances of finding two planets similar enough to the level they were in POA is very small, the chances of finding two planets that similar with exactly the same evolutionary ladder is infinate, so even if they did exist (due to the infinate number of planets yada yada yada) the chances of finding them and them being close enough for reasonable travel times is also infintesimaly small.

Talk about off on a tangent....man take the information that was given in the movie...nothing more, nothing less.. chances, possibility, infinite this & that, yada yada yada is right, there is a possiblity that monkey could fly out your a$$ as well, I'll leave it to you to decide the exact %, ....but IN THE MOVIE it happened, regardless of small possibilites, and there were other animals there...since it is of popular opinion 'round here that there were no other animals outside of Chimps were on Oberon, then based upon movie facts, it is simple deductive reasoning that these other animals already existed on this planet in some form.

"But talking Apes, that you have no problem with?"

LOL, now that is you best post all thread.

"The damn animals were afraid of water!! Didn't they need it to survive. How did they get the pod out of the water?"

Now this has to one of most idiotic things Ive ever read, so you think people who are afraid to swim because they may drown, dont drink water?!?! ROFL....again, IN THE MOVIE, Marky Mark was able to convince Ari to hold onto his back while he swam across that stream, so therefore its rasonable to assume that she felt a slightly less apprehensive about being in water. Again, she was one of few apes whom seem to possess a "open mind" before Marky Mark's big arrival. So IF, big if, the next writer of the sequal script decides to say the sunken pod was used by Thade...has some room to maybe say that Ari & some other forward thinking friends, decided to examine this pod a little further to see what they could learn from it/research. Some how fell into Thades hands, and rest is history (or is it? LOL)...IMO, I really would have hard time believing that line, I think that pod took a helluva beating on landing, not mention subsequent water damage, that coupled low possiblity of tools, materials, or knowhow to fix it....I suspect that IF the "Thade sneaks off in a pod" story is used, that it would more plausible to find an unused pod from Oberon, even though the Oberon "appeared" to be heavily damage, the command center seemed relatively intact, only covered in sand, and after seeing that, my first thought, was how much more of the ship is still intact, then Marky Mark fired off that one fuel cell/engine, which made wonder even more.

  24. I just have one question about the movie:

HOW THE HELL THAT STUPID GUY CRASHED 2 PODS WHILE THE LITTLE MONKEY LANDED IT PERFECTLY?????

After that, i guess it's pretty much possible that Thade not only fixed the pod but improved it to a lethal wheapon, time machine and went to earth and then exterminated the stupid humans that can't land a pod.

Just a thought after burning my brain out with reading all the fine posts. Okay the mothership was operational and left operational. Marky didn't bother to destroy it. So therefore the database and all info about earth, and etc are left. We know the monkeys can read and right, I'm sorry apes, monkeys are just above humans. So thade could easily spend time utilizing the database from the ship to learn everything he needs to know. Of course I am curious how they got the pod from the water, but if he befriended a human, just to use them to get what he wants, then he might be able to get the pod then. Or given the humans and apes at the end are left as equals to create a society of equals then they may very well pull the pod themselves to create a rememberance of marky's character. With the knowledge that thade gains from the ship he can repair the vessel and fly it. I mean they have to have repair manuals and flight manuals on the ship whether stored in the computer or otherwise. You can take the parts from the mothership to repair marky's ship. Once he arrives on earth, he only needs to find some apes to mate with and you start a whole new evolution line for the apes, a jump in evolution, aka x-men.

Thanks for all the posts, before reading all the threads I was a bit confused by the ending but then it occurred to me as I was reading.

My wife brought up the same point orson, but this is actually a fairly simple hurdle in comparison to all the rest.

You have a few choices to get him out, plus they never really show whether the device needs a true hand signature or if it may just be a form of a button, but even without considering how the door actually functions.

There has to be a ventilation system, this could be utilized to escape. You also have the possibility that another ape would smash the identification pad and somehow shorting out the system. Or here again another ape that would be loyal to thade learns a little about the system and how to override the locking mechanism.
You also have this probability, that say thade creates a fire or a fire is started, thereby activating the fire sensor which may automatically open the doors to the cages and etc so that they can escape the fire.

I don't know, getting out of the locked door isn't that big of a hurdle though.
