I'm trying to convert the avi to another codec but it won't let me. In virtualdub it says Error Decompressing video frame. An unknown error occurred (may be corrupt data). (error code -100). I tried divfix but it didn't find a bad frame. I tried scanning errors in vdubmod and mask/ delete frames but that didn't work. I watched the movie and it was fine. What is wrong?

Still, there's prolly an error somewhere in the AVI. You could also try a newer version of whatever codec is used for video, and see if VDub handles it any better.

If it plays ok you could also try opening via AVISynth with directshowsource().

The mere fact that you can play an AVI from start to end, tells you absolutely nothing (or close to) about the integrity of the AVI. Players are designed to handle errors in the AVI - encoders aren't.
(Compare to DVD players, that plays a DVD-R full of read errors without noticable hiccups)
