If I buy hardware here in Japan, why is it that drivers are so important, and why is it that some companies (Big companies like Canon) don't make drivers for us foreigners who live in Japan, yet some companies make sure that it will work with all systems? Are drivers that hard to make (I really have no clue)???

many many drivers are written by 3rd parties ...

SO let's say I buy a printer, doesn't work because of the drivers...can I find other drivers that will make it work, or is that like finding a needle in a hay stack?

Microsoft actually writes the most drivers -- even for other companies (true) , though you may not see their name on them ..
