I am trying to convert an AVI to DVD format using DIKO and the end result is that the audio is out of sync.
Here are the steps that I follow:
1.) Play the AVI using VLC - audio is in sync.
2.) Run DIVFIX to rebuild indexes - audio is in sync.
3.) Run Virtual Dub, Mod and Freeze - all load the AVI without warning and no errors are evident after scanning.
4.) Convert to DVD format using DIKO and the audio is out of sync.

I have a couple of questions:
a.) Is there an additional utility I should be running * before * DIKO to ensure that the audio is in sync?
b.) I use Virtual Dub / Interleaving to delay the audio track. However, I am * guessing * the amount to skew. Is there a correct way to calculate the amount without trying multiple guesses?

    Thank you in advance.

Download VSO's DivXtoDVD program and test your end result for sync problems.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

May I ask why this program rather than DIKO?
Does it automatically fix sync problems?

No, although different programs do the audio conversion part differently.
Just trying to rule out the program from the possible list of culprits.

I unchecked 'burn with CopyToDvd' since I did not want to potentially waste a DVD.
There is no *.iso file or audi_ts directory.
    Is this correct?

    Thank you

    Here is my update:
I used ImgTool Classic to create an *.ISO and the audio is synchronized!
It might be my imagination, but I think that the Video image created by DIKO's tools are sharper than DivxToDvd.
DivxToDvd seems to only run 1 pass versus DIKO's 2 and in a lot less time.

The simple answer is FORGET any ALL IN ONE SOLUTION.

Then read the guides OR Google.

I am willing to try your suggestion.
Can you recommend * one specific guide * for a newbie that uses freeware?
I would really appreciate your advice.

My suggestion is to quit relying on other people's crappy capturing and DIVX encoding. If you do not control 100% of the process, you'll never get 100% successful results 100% of the time.

You're doing what I call a salvage operation. Take what you can and quit worrying about perfection. You never had it to begin with.

You are dealing with a format (AVI codecs) that has no set standards.

I totally understand what you are saying and I appreciate that you are being so candid.
I think that my particular agrevating (sp) factor is that the same DVD's worked on a Pioneer DVD player that we bought * last * Christmas. Since we bought a new Pioneer DVD * recorder * this Christmas, the macroblocks have started to appear.
I feel like my knowlege at this point is one step forward and two back.

    http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm might help.

Unfortunately, trial and error is the only way to fix synch problems, aside from buying the DVD (if available) of course
    If in doubt, Google it.

    You've confused me.
We've gone from talking about converting DIVX to DVD.
And somehow ended up on the DVD player?
I do not see the connection.

Yeah we don't expect it to be perfect but audio synch has been done before. So this means it CAN be done. So we're not asking the impossible here. We just need to know what's the best way to do it.

I know I sync the audio and the video perfectly before...just recently it's been acting up.

My apologies, I have two threads going here with different problems on the same AVI. I got confused between them.
