You can use the liteon utility to inable bitsetting, but you have to inable it each time you boot. If you flash your firmware with firmware patched with omnipatcher, it will remain enabled. Nero 5.5 is able to use bitsetting.

Here is a firmware page for nec drives. I just flashed my plextor 504a to a nec nd 1100a. Now I can burn dvd+r as dvd-rom!

If you draw a line around the edge of CD's with a Green Magic Marker the sound quality improves and they sound better than Vinyl LP's

Setting the booktype allows a +r disc to be more compatible than it would have otherwise been. Do you have any clue what you are even talking about?

booktype is crap. i changed the booktype of my +RW's to dvd-rom and still 2 of my dvd-roms couldn't recognize it.

I wouldn't say that qualify's as bitsetting being crap

Might want to upgrade (or downgrade) your dvd players. In my experience (and I think I speak for most of us when I say this), the cheaper (or lesser known) brand the player is, the better its ability to read R media. And usually has way more features than "name brand" players too

I'm not sure. DVDinfopro works like a charm for me on my NEC1300.

sounds great. now i'm a tad confused. I asked originally when should one bitset and the answer was just prior to burning the dvdr (in this case Nero has a box where one can select that option). So how is it you can use DVDInfoPro to bitset if it is not used to burn the DVDR?? Does it actually burn something on the blank so that it is no longer a blank once I fire up Nero (v5.5.10.42 which does not have the option)? thanks for all replies.

Usually, the booktype setting is something you program into the drive itself and is persistent until you change it again. So you can use DVDInfoPro, NECWinFlash, or whatever, to set your booktype preference, and any +R media you burn from then on, even if it's in some other burning program, will be set to that booktype.

DVDInfopro(and others) changes the bitsetting on the drive,I believe you have to do this everytime you reboot.
Only a few brands(ie BenQ,NuTech) remember the setting.

Huh ? i have been only using +r's and changing them to DVD-ROM with my lite-on and have had them play in players that would only play -R's..........

No, if you have a lite-on drive that supports bitsetting you can get the utility from the lite-on site to change it.

It's automatic on DL.

no its not DL,its single layer.
copytodvd,dvddecrypter,and nero toolkit detect it as a dvd rom.
i used to have problems with copytodvd and +r media,sent them a log and they sent me an updated version,now it seems to burn +r SL as dvd-rom.

Have you looked at them through DvdinfoPro ??
And it say's they are DVD-ROM for booktype ??
