run G-Spot or smilar to find out which audio codec you are missing, and replace it. Obviously this got screwed up when DirectX went nuts.

Worst case scenerio, to fix this you will have to wipe windows and rebuild.

well I took your advice and got this Gspot program, no such luck, it just shows n.a. for everything,, I already know that it's mpeg audio that isn't working, like I said, I rendered a clip in Vegas which uses the Main Concept encoder, I made a standard mpg 2 file, video is working, but the audio is not....

  6. But it did help you. By saying na (not available) it
is showing you what is missing. Sounds like
you need to start off with a new copy of MS Media
    Player

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp

    ..and a codec pack like

  8. Ok, now try downloading a demo copy of
    powerdvd and installing it.

    http://www.gocyberlink.com/english/download/dl_file_new.jsp?dl_id=213&ProdId=1

This should fix any remaining directshow problems.
If not, then the issue may lie elsewhere -> soundcard etc.

Try this and get back to us.

what do you mean by " renew your copy of msplayer" do you mean reinstall?
MP3 files play in media player, but they don't play in BS Player,, I will have to check on playing DVDs,, but then again, my DVDs are AC3 audio, not MPEG Audio, so it doesn't seem like that would tell me anything...

  11. I don't understand ? What audio works and what
does not? Are you saying AC3 works and mpeg does
    not?

  13. Right now I'd suggest a system restore if you have
restore running. There are too many variables now
if you have already tried what I suggested in full.

What exactly was the "fiasco with DirectX" you
    experienced?
