    Don't laugh.

All I want to know is, if I want a universal remote, to control TV, Digital Cable box, VCR, Audio AND DVD... I know I have to get one of those $20 8-function "Universal" remotes.

The Digital Cable one, turns on TV w/volume, very basic VCR function, and of course, the Cable box itself.

I'd be interested in having one that does EVERYTHING... but the only problem is my Apex DVD player (500W model).

I'm just curious.. does anyone know if it "borrows" a code system from another brand model? Then I can program the DVD functions to that model, and control my Apex!

Apex (surprise!) is not listed on any remote's supported DVD player brands.

  3. Yeah a cheap learning remote will work.
Cinema-7 or the radio shack versions are about $20-30.
They can be taught the codes and macro's built for
    chained commands.
    Cinema-7 at Wal-mart or BB.

I haven't seen any remotes that let you create command-specific codes... what I mean is, does Apex borrow another brand's codes? (say, Pioneer, Sony or such)? Or is the only solution one of these elusive remotes?

  5. For Apex you cannot use regular remote to work with it. You do need very expensive multiple control device, or you can use learning remote and setup all the buttons yourself. Check http://www.nerd-out.com/forum and serch for remote.
For myself I bought "zenith" learning remote control about $20.00 and it works great.
