  1. I was wondering about which windows apps you have been successfully able to use under wine in linux (besides the Gold ones on WineHQ). I would really like to be able to run SSMM (it works but can't recognize video codecs) and GUI For DVD Author... Any ideas about that? Also what did you do to get your apps to work?

I have XP install.... just wondering if there was a way I could run them in linux, that way I could check them off of the dwindling list of windows apps that I still need.

I use crossover office. It will run almost any windows software as long as it dosn't access the hardware, like capture devices. You can get the demo and see if the programs your requireing will work with it. Examples of tools I've used with it are:
TMPGEnc, Virtualdub, MPEG Corrector are the one I've used before.

So my only real option is to go with commercial software for this?
    Thanks for the info!

  6. If you want to use a really good tool take a look at DVD-Lab Pro. You will need to run it under Wine or Crossover.

Otherwise there is qdvdauthor for Linux

  7. BTW for wine, if you run winefile instead of just opening an executable with wine you increase your chances of wine being able to open it.
