Hi. I used the following guide to add permanent subtitles to my .avi file:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/153058.php
But after i converted to dvd file, it only had SOME of the subtitles. It would just randomly stop and come back on.
Any ideas how to ensure this does not happen?

I converted a couple movies like this that were import DVD discs and had 100% English subtitles but only a few scenes that needed them. For instance the longer Japanese DVD of KILL BILL VOL. 1 is for the Japanese market so when English subtitles are on they are on 100% of the time. I used SubRip to get them into a TEXT format that I could edit with Subtitle Workshop so I could keep JUST the English subtitles needed (so they only appear during the non-English speaking scenes) then used the VSFilter and TextSub in an AviSynth script to burn them in during the encode. I did 16x9 and picked a font that was compressed (looked tall and thin) so it would look normal when stretched back out.
Worked a charm but was a lot of work!
I also did this with the DRAGON PAL DVD release of the INTEGRAL HARD VERSION of Dario Argento's PHENOMENA which was the same case (had to edit English subtitles so they only appeared when needed).
I have no clue how to generate the subs myself though from scratch, I can imagine that the timing (even if you could do a translation yourself) would be a bitch to get correct.
