  1. I transferred VCR tape video to DVD+RW (Philips DVD recorder) but without audio cables (didn't want sound). I transferred that DVD-Video into TMPGEnc DVD Author creating a *.mpg file, which shows video length -- and plays back well -- at 38 mins. as expected.

However, I wanted to strip out audio track altogether (to bring it into an existing title in DVD Author that doesn't have an audio track), so I used MPEG Tools in TMPGEnc Plus 2.524.63.181 to create a separate, video-only *.m2v file from the *.mpg file. That process completed successfully according to TMPGEnc Plus. When I transfer that *.m2v file into DVD Author, only the first 13 mins. of the 38 mins. of video are there. This happens whether I use "Simple De-multiplex" or "De-multiplex" in TMPGEnc Plus.

Why did TMPGEnc Plus not demultiplex all 38 mins.?

  2. FWIW, I found a solution as follows after trying a lot of different tools and trial and error.

Used DVD Decrypter on the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD+RW disk. Under DVD Decrypter’s Tools | Settings | IFO Mode, set Options | File Splitting to None.

Under Stream Processing tab for the main PGC, selected Demux, and checked off video only. Process completed but only 13 mins. of video produced. Unsuccessful.

Under same tab, selected Demux, and checked off video and audio. Process completed but only 13 mins. of video produced. Unsuccessful.

Under same tab, selected Direct Stream Copy, and checked off video only. Process completed and all 38 mins. of video produced. Success.

I don’t know enough about all this to know what the “problem” was, but at least this is a solution to get the full video stream without an audio stream.
