Not a fan of tatoos on girls, maybe a small one on their ankle or somewhere else. It does seem popular with them now. I've tried convincing a few of my female friends to get a guestbook with a few names tatooed on their innner thigh or on their arse but they don't seem to like the idea.
Guys I couldn't care about. I don't see the point in getting a tribal or asian character tatoo though.

Nah, I'm not getting a tattoo to be unique, but I do want to get something "different." I've been thinking more about the snake and I've decided against it. It's still a little too "radical" for some people to take, especially during business meetings. Not only is it a big ass tattoo on my entire arm, it's a freaking big ass snake. (They wouldn't like me at PTSA meetings, too.)
To me, there's two types of tattoo people. People who get them because they want one and people who are trend followers. I could care less that tattoos are getting really popular. I've wanted one since I was a grade schooler. I've also been trying to grow a goatee since I developed facial hair, but my damn genetics are against me.Goatees have since become the trend.
To me, a tattoo is like a work of art that you carry with you all the time. That's why I've been thinking about what to get for so long. I know they can be removed with laser surgery, but other than that, a tattoo is permanent. There are parts of my person that will grow as I age and hopefully become wiser, and there are parts that will always stay the same. I want my tattoo to represent those areas that will always be a part of me, good and bad.
I don't need a tattoo to say who I am, or define me, but I do want to get one. -
I do painless tattoo removal for anyone interested.
I use a 40 grit belt sander. I don't feel any pain at all!
I am kind of in the middle of the road about tattoos. I have seen some that are indeed art of a high quality. My brother has several by Maddog and his ole lady, that are of the higest quality as far as shadeing, coloring and overall content and composition go. But I have to say that most tattoos don't appeal to me on an artistic basis. I do however deeply respect tattoos displaying military service and the "Esprit de corps" that they represent. The bearers of such tattoos that have served us deserve or continuing gratitude for their serviceWhether or not you agree with the political issues involved, these people stood ready to give all for all.

My only one...so far. May get another, still deciding what I'd want.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -

I can change it for you if you would like. Real cheap, and did I mention, painless

Without the outline it would fade to nothing on the light areas. The shape itself would not be defined.

Zapper - I totally agree with you on the national service aspect. I won't elaborate, to avoid this thread going political and getting locked, but I hear you.
By the way, I've used your tattoo removal method at work and it's not painless. Now 80 grit, that's painless.
Funny you should mention sand paper. I just talked about how I maintain the tools and how my dad wrecks them in another thread. He broke a belt of 220 grit sand paper today, while using our wide belt sander. I have no idea how. This is the first time in 10 years that this has happened. As far as I know, he wasn't pushing the machine too hard, because I would have heard it. Previous employees have abused the machine more, but never broke a belt. Worse yet, it didn't even break at the seam. When he showed me the remnants of the sand paper, I didn't even try to figure out what happened. -

Dude, some stuff on that page is fricken hilarious.
I was trying to explain the concept of "engrish" to my wife, but she couldn't hear the difference. I didn't do it to tease her, but I couldn't help but crack up. It was the epitome of engrish, trying to explain engrish to a non english speaker, and her not understanding. (My wife is from Japan and I speak mostly in Japanese to her) -
I got a vcdhelp logo tattoo... boy did I feel stupid. So I got a dvdrhelp tattoo on the other arm... damn it!

I posted a reply yesterday that got lost somehow, but the summation still holds:
the only difference between tattooed people and non-tattooed people is, tattooed people don't mind if you don't have a tattoo.
@mrtristan - sounds like you want one for the right reasons - go for it.
before I got my first one, I did an informal poll and asked every guy I saw over 50 who was sporting a tattoo about their tattoos... where they got it, when, how much it cost, etc. then the big question - "do you regret getting them?"
out of about 50 guys I talked to, only one said "yeah, I was dumb as dirt, I never should have gotten it." (a 1" skull on the inside of his arm). Every other guy, whether they had one or 20, military or not, said no, they were just part of them and they didn't regret them.- housepig

I'm still yet to get the artwork done for our cricket premiership, where a number of players have had the club's logo and the year done just above the ankle.
If in doubt, Google it. -

Mrtristan, I like useing the 40 grit because it doesn't clog as fast, and it cuts faster. The speed of the process is important when you are trying to hold down a 285 lb biker. And as long as I don't remove much more than 50% of his total skin surface the victom (I mean customer) stands a good chance of recovering
Tell your "pops" to be careful not to bleed on the work

Blah. Military tattoos are one thing, but it's a goddamn fad now.
I guess it's not much of concern anymore, but a close buddy got one while in Subic 35 years ago. You guessed it, hepatitis. Supposedly it was treated, gone, but 20-odd years later it recurs and it's ******* resistant to everything the docs can think of. He gets injections weekly for a few months that damn near kill him. Real fine line between killing it and finishing off what's left of his liver. Then on his periodic test they tell him they have to start all over. Been going on for over 10 years now.
Glad I never got one.Pull! Bang! Darn! -
