I have recorded some standard definition dtv and it converts to dvd easily enough, only trouble is at the top edge of the 16:9 picture on a computer monitor is some light lines of noise.
I can mask that with TMPGENC but I don't want to have to reencode with TMPGENC.

Does anyone know any tools that can take an already dvd compliant mpg and allow masking to cover over such problems as this without having to reencode?

I believe when you author the MPEG to DVD those lines of noise will be cropped off. I do alot of VHS--->DVD conversions and I see the same distortions at the edges when I get my AVI, but when i author the MPEG and watch it on my set top, they're cropped out.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

The noise actually appears between the 16:9 image top and the black band of the letterbox on the 4:3 monitor.

When I have authored it is still there, but if I had a 19:9 TV it would be at the extreme top of the screen or maybe drop off like the VHS noise does at the bottom of a 4:3 TV.
