TV Capture Flickering

I've pretty well gotten the hang of converting my old VHS tapes and burning thanks to the great info on this site. Tried something new now though and am having less than ideal results. Did a capture to hard disk from a TV cable (straight out of the wall)-> VCR tuner-> S-Video out-> ADVC-100-> Firewire in to PC.

I am converting the resulting DV AVI with TEMPGenc Plus 2.5 using 2-pass VBR set for highest quality (extremely slow), but there is a subtle flicker on the screen which is most noticeable during darker scenes. It's barely noticeable during the brighter scenes, but is still there once you knwo to look for it.

I have tried changing the interlace field order, but that doesn't really seem to help. I have read a fair amount on the site about telecine, pulldown, etc., but those seem to be related more to transferring film to video initially, not in capturing an NTSC broadcast of a film. I definitely could be wrong there though so would appreciate anyone setting me straight on that or anything else I shoudl try to get decent results.

Any ideas?

Would be happy to, but don't see a way to attach anything other than JPGs, GIFs, or PNGs. Don't mean to stray too much from my original question, but if someone can tell me where to find info on posting a short clip I'll be glad to do so. I'm sure it would help explan what I'm seeing and get my problem solved quicker.

Flicker remover = "SIMA, Copy This". Available at your local electronics store.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Sima device, but I don't think that's going to help with my current problem. I don't have a VHS tape that I'm trying to transfer; I captured this directly to my hard drive so there IS no tape.

Again, if anyone can point me in the direction of info on posting a clip I'll be happy to do that. I know that it would be so much easier to understand what I'm describing if you could see it.

You need to give us a clip. No way around that. Use your own webspace.

Is it a flicker or jerky motion? The field order would cause jerky motion in fast moving scences. I assume the flicker isn't there in the source. Is it there when you view your processed video on the TV?

It's a subtle flicker rather than jerky motion. It is more pronounced, or at least noticeable, in darker scenes. It is still there in the lighter ones, but less noticeable. It's kind of a pulsating effect, where the screen is subtly brighter then darker. I don't notice it when playing back on my PC monitor, but do see it when playing on TV from a burned disc.

This was grabbed from a cable feed, so I'm assuming that it's already NTSC standard video that I should be able to convert without any really strange complications. As always, any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Since it plays differently on the PC from the TV, I wonder if it has anything to do with interlacing... But there you are over my head.
