  1. Hi, I'm a newb to this vcd lark. I've read a few posts and have been trying to copy with both Eazy and DVD2SVCD.

First question - I'm progressing nicely with a copy of a film, only when it comes to make the SVCD the file is too large for a 700mb. Yes, I have Eazy set to 700mb and 1 disc. Is there something else I need to do or will I just have to use 2 discs? Is it common that with SVCDs you can't get the dvds onto 1 cd?

Been trying to copy dvd of a comedy series but all that's copying is the take-outs - none of the episodes - is this due to anti-pirating software? The dvd itself won't play on the computer due to copywrite protection.

Sorry if these questions are a bit dumb, as I said I'm new...

  2. You can typically get 40 Mins or so of SVCD onto a single CD. If your video is longer than that then you must either split it to 2 disks or re-encode with a lower bitrate, reducing quality in tho process.

Typically 2 or 3 CD's depending on the lenght of the film.

I don't know of any copy protection that blocks playing on a PC. Anyone else?

Region coding. DVD-Rom drives are usually region locked just like standalones.

Also like standalones, the region lock can usually be removed or ByPassed.

Do you realise that VCD/SVCDs typically hold 800MB and they will fit on a standard 700MB/80min CD? You can get a short-ish film on one VCD and a longer one using one of the KVCD templates or similar.

    I gather you're talking about EazyVCD ?

You might want to look at this guide, and play around with a few of the settings. If you choose SVCD as the type, then it will encode at SVCD-compliant settings, and you'll need to set the File-splitting to 700MB CDR for it to create separate files for you, with each one being able to be authored and burnt (if you output to MPEG files), or you can let it author for you (if you choose to output to image). To get a bit trickier, if you choose XSVCD as the type, then choose how many CDs you want to take up, it will work out the optimum bitrates to encode at so that your final file fits the size you have specified. This is handy if you want to fit something onto 1 CD only.
    If in doubt, Google it.
