Not that I know enough about media to participate in this debate much, but .....
About the idea that Lordsmurf shouldn't post his opinions as "facts" without some level of support or objective evidence. In my sphere of experience, his would be what would be termed an "expert opinion" on the topics on these boards. So, while being aware that his personal feelings and perspective may (and always do) colour his statements, his vast experience with the topic(s) at hand lends its own form of support for his statements and opinions.
Just thought I'd throw this out there. An "expert opinion" is expert for a *reason*, which is not to say that there should not be some form of support at all.
Interesting thread, I'm learning a lot about media, and more about the various sites that sell it. Keep on talking guys!

lordsmurf, right, exactly my point regarding newegg. You have mentioned on a number of occasions you don't care for them when It seems like you're going out of your way to do so. The majority of the people on the web praise them so why not just leave those types of posts alone? It's clear by nathanaa's post that these newbies regard your opinions highly so maybe you should take a breath and not impose your opinions so strongly on so many posts when so many people have other exeperiences which differ from yours. I personally have nothing against you and on the same token I don't regard your opinions as expert because I've seen many flaws in the things you write. Sometimes you are on the money, no doubt, but others you are just way off base and at times, way out of line.
I don't know what truth there is to johnywoo's statements but I find some of what they said very intriguing and it makes some of what I said even that much more strong. If any of what they said is true that would be so truly sad to have a tainted board such as this because people aren't getting the truth about a lot of products and a lot of online stores.
I'm hoping they are wrong though and if they are, take a look at your posts morning, noon, and night and try to see if what i'm saying makes any sense. I know i'm not an "expert" but I think i'm dead on with my points here.
Happy Holiday's to all.
Regards,
Morty

Gee, everyone's as bit too emotional ATM IMO.
Everyone has the right to and has got an opinion. This is a forum, so everyone's bound to have differing opinions. That's why everyone needs to take everyone else's comments with a grain of salt. If someone's experience isn't the norm fot that particular vendor, a forum search will soon display this by showing countless people that are happy with that vendor.
Now I know that LS is generally spot-on, and is someone to listen to. Why ? because I have found things out over the years that almost always compliment what he says. If people give enough generally accepted answers, you tend to trust their opinions most of the time. Sure, at times he steps out of line IMO also, but he's only human after all. That's where I take the grain of salt with him. LS has the right to his opinion, just as you do, Mortomer. At the end of the day, if you don't rate his opinion, that's fine. No biggie. No-one's forcing you to read his posts.
Unless you can factually prove anything you've alleged, it's best to drop it IMOIf in doubt, Google it.

True, we have people who have opinions one way or the other, but that can hardly be called "tainting" the forum.
