  2. I am very interested in a PAL to NSTC conversion. I know I could always feed the vob to TmpgEnc via VirtualDubMod. But I would loose the menus.

    I *still* can't understand you ...

So there's no need to do a PAL/NTSC conversion then ? If not, run the DVD through DVDShrink and either make it region-free or specify the region that you're in.
    If in doubt, Google it.

No disrespect, but Leeds is a shit-hole. Even the football team is worth less than a pirate VCD

Possibly, but you would have to transcode the disks if they were more than the size of a DVDR. If it works and you make a habit of it, you could probably buy a new DVD player for the time and effors it takes to rip, transcode and burn and handful of disks.

Yeah, but i'll probably have a long grey beard by then. Aren't they 16th in the coca-cola "championship"or something like that.

There are some nice places to live in Leeds. You've missed out on the delights of Little London or the joys of Chapel Town
I hope this has taught you kids a lesson: kids never learn.

if all you needed was a region-free disc why on earth did you go on about how you would do a ntsc->pal conversion??

grab dvd decrypter, remove region lock, iso read, iso write. you're done. 20 minutes at worst.
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl

For all practical purposes, it's not possible. Every frame of video would have to be re-encoded, all the subpictures (subtitles & button graphics etc), all the audio adjusted, buttons moved, etc ... a monumental task to do manually; I can't even imagine trying to make it automatic.

The latest version of NuMenu4u does just this, but I think it requires Scenarist so obviously most people couldn't use it.

The hard part is the reauthoring stage, getting all the assets to conform to the PAL specifications is trivial. NuMenu already handles the reauthoring effectively so its just a matter of adding a few extra steps to make it PAL compliant which it apparantly does (ie: resample audio, batch re-encode subpictures, add 96 pixels to all Y values for button overlay sizes, lower their height by I guess 45 pixels, and adjust time stamps for subpictures.)

  16. From the DVDSanta site, they claim it can convert from PAL to NSTC. Don't know about vice versa.

    From their website:

Sounds like using a mouse or keyboard aren't pre-requisites either
    If in doubt, Google it.

  19. rip to hdd
dvd2avi it (demuxing audio to wav)
load dvd2avi file in virtual dub
    resize to 720 x 576
    frame serve to tmpgenc
in tmgpenc , from options select inverse telecline, and select do not frame rate conversion
set the remaining parameters on video tab to pal video
    encode
use besweet (23.976->25fps template) to convert audio to mp2 format
    author dvd
    voila

OR USE A NLE SUCH AS VEGAS TO DO A NICE LONG JOB OF IT.

for each hour of my video, takes 45 minutes of time.

no simple for ntsc -> pal

    hence buy 'xtra' dvd 'playa'

    tee hee hee
