I use dvd shrink all the time to burn one dvd to another, but recently i have put a lot of old video tapes onto my hard drive and I want to use shrink to compress them and burn to dvd.
One problem, I cant work out how to do it!
    Please help asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S I am using Pinnacle STudio 9 to capture the video through my camera.
Do i render them to mpeg 2 with studio 9 them use shrink?

  2. You have to author a DVD on your hard drive. In the past Pinnacle Studio would not allow you to do this if the resulting video was oversized. (Stupid limitation).

I use Tmpgenc DVD Author to make an oversized DVD on my hard drive. In other words it makes the .vob files etc but instead of burning them to a DVD just put the on the hard drive. Then use DVD shrink to re-size the DVD.

Unless things have changed recently, I don't think DVDShrink is going to do it for you.

Try DivXtoDVD (it'll do a ton of different source file formats, including, MPEG, MOV, WMV, AVI). You'll also end up with a VIDEO_TS folder filled with the .VOB, .IFO, AND .BUP files your DVD player hungers for.

The sucker is FAST - 44FPS on some of my encodes.

    It's also free

IMO you're better off re-encoding to the specs you require, instead of transcoding. YMMV though
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. you can use shrink to transcode your ALREADY AUTHORED FOR DVD home movies.

what version of shrink are you using? I believe on the 3.1 and up versions will take non commerical dvd's. Also what do you mean by it doesnt work? What is the error?

i am using dvd shrink 3.1
So, do you mean i author the video through studio 9 like i would normally on my shorter films............but just put to my hard drive instead of dvd cause its too big. Then put it in dvd shrink from there?

  7. yes. Shrink will only look at properly authored DVD video files (has the Video and audio TS folders with appropriate vob's, bup's, ifo's etc.

Just author the dvd through your other software as usual ignoring references to bigger than 4.3 blah blah blah. Then after you have authored the file (can even do an iso image), open shrink and have it read the file and then shrink as you would any other file.

  8. Yeah, but Pinnacle Studio won't let you create a DVD that is too big. Tmpgenc DVD Author will. They used to have a free trial. I don't know if they still do.
