  1. i'am having a problem with my ATI radeon card (9800 pro) well kind of....
It seems that whenever i run out a signal into my vcr or dvd recorder deck (via svhs cable), i'am getting horzontal lines that scroll up the screen.
It appears more of somekind of interference rather than a software issue.

I cannot get rid of it. I took out all other pci devices, changed the wire, etc. Nothing, I then even put in my older nvidia G-force card and that too had the lines on the tv out.

So i was thinking the problem lies with something in my pc somewhere (or somekind of power issue from my wall perhaps) but what? Is it a grounding issue? any help would greatly be appreciated

Could be many things but horizotal lines moving up the screen suggests either AC 60Hz power or another video signal interfering. Maybe the other video signal is a TV tuner or a harmonic of your scan frequency.

A PC is a noisy environment for analog audio or video. Quality solutions require moving the analog circuits out into a separate shielded box.

  3. Changing the refresh frequency of your monitor might help.

  4. i do have my main tv/svhs decks, etc in the other room. The computer svhs cable from the tv card goes through the wall (nice hole i drilled) and into the next room so i dont have to move things all the time. I will mess/move some of the vcrs and see if anything might fix it.

I also want to try the change refresh rate, however my pc advised that doing so may damage the unit (monitor).

Don't knock yourself out, just disconnect of move things one by one. You may never find it.

e.g. shut off the monitor or other TV sets one by one and see if the moving line disappears.

  6. thanks for the info. Will try things one by one. At least i eliminated other items in the pc doing it. Will try shutting off the monitor first. Then try unplugging it, etc Will report back here and let you know either way

  7. I solved the problem. It was an issue with the wall power. The vcr room outlet and the outlet my pc are in, happen to be in the exact same spot if you minus the wall seperating them, if you had to drill through the wall the outlets are either
A: 2 different routes but placed exactly in the same spot in either room
    b: connected

So i plugged the pc into a different outlet along my wall and it still gave that problem. From what i can remember about my house, this other outlet is also on the same line as the normal computer one i use....

So i unhooked the pc, went into the other room and used an outlet on the far wall . This worked fine, the lines disappeared (trying it in the same outlet as my vcr also gave problems).

I guess then, for future tv out projects i will either have to unhook the pc and bring it to my other room, or get a really long extension cord to run into the other outlet-- ok goodnight and thanks again for the info
