  1. I have a am AMD 64 Bit 3000+ with a gig of RAM and when I use DVD decrypter to rip DVD's using my old SONY DVD ROM drive it uses 100% of my processor and if I rip with MY new LG DVD read/write it only uses 20% why would that be? also is DVD decrypter a better ripper that say Shrink dvd is? the LG drive is GSA-4160B and teh Sony is DDU1211 the Sony is set to master and teh LG to slave

usually 100% cpu usage is the result of a drive/controller dropping into PIO mode, instead of running in UDMA.

I am guessing the two burners are on the same IDE channel, or is the Sony DVD-ROM set as slave to your Hard Disk?

Other suggestions: uninstall any chipset specific IDE drivers (VIA, NVidia, etc) and install the default "Microsoft" drivers.

  3. the 2 drives are on the sae IDE cable but not on the same cable as my hard drives. I have 3 hard ddrives on 3 seperate cables and a riad controler. The Sony reads DVD's slower as well because I ripped a 2 hour dvd last night in 22 muinites using my LG drive and with the Sony it usually thkes 35 min to do(rip tp hard drive)

I wonder if the sony unit is "rip locked" - meaning the firmware in the drive limits the speed at which it will read a video DVD. That still would not explain your high CPU usage. You might want to try another program (Shrink), try ininstalling any software such as CloneCD. You might also want to try uninstalling/reinstalling Decryptor.

You could also check out the forums over at http://club.cdfreaks.com - if you can not find a solution here.

    Good Luck!
