  1. Processor = Intel 2.6 Ghz with Hyperthreading and 800 FSB
    MBO = Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
    RAM = 1 GB DDR 400
    Primary Master = 80GB Maxtor 8mb Cache
    Secondary Master = 80GB Maxtor 8mb Cache
    RAID = (2) Western Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM Drives

    In Adobe Premiere 6.5, whenever I set up to capture on my RAID drives, I drop a frame every 2 seconds. Yet, when I capture on my Secondary Master, I either drop no frames or maybe one frame an hour. The guy at the comp. store says I may have the cluster size on my RAID drives set too low for capturing video, but wouldn’t the 10,000 rpm rotation speed counteract that?

    How in the _ do you change the cluster size of hard drive, much less, a RAID drive?

    This addresses cluster sizes:

    I have pretty much the same spec as you down to the same mobo and maxtors and I can cap just fine so you should be also if you're set up correctly. Defragging and capping to a partition at the front of the drive(s) is pretty much what you need to stick to but I suppose you already knew that.

    To change the cluster size:

    Format and specify in the dialogue box which cluster size you would like.

    If formatting is not an option, a util such as Partition Magic can change cluster sizes, though you're out of luck here since PM cannot do much if you're using an NTFS5-formatted partition.

    Both options are viable for any type of setup - RAID included. Is it the the ASUS hardware or WinXP striped/RAID type? WinXP's software RAID has overheads which can hinder performance rather than enhance it in case you didn't know.

    Either way I'd recommend formatting a partition at the front of the disk(s) for best performance or the whole of the disk(s). Magic it may be but Parition Magic is not flawless.
