I have jst recently bought a Pinoeer DEH-P9600MP (http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=7548&taxonomy_id=25-121) CD Unit for my car, two of my car speakers had already blown out before fitting the new unit so i thought that i might as well replace all of the speakers (2 rear 2 front) i replaced the old 20 watt speakers with Pioneer TS-G1018 (http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=6788&taxonomy_id=25-131) when i came to use the system the new speakers were crap! They have got no bass and the volume cannot be turned up that loud, the old speakers were alot louder and had good bass, can any one recommend to me some speakers that have good bass, quite loud (but not over the top), front and rear speakers. I don't really have a budgit but i don't really want to spend 100s of £ on them so lookin for somethin under £100 a pair, the car that they are being fitted into is a 2001 Ford Fiesta Freestyle.

    Thanks in advanced!

At 10cm, I don't think you can expect a ton of bass from a woofer only 10cm in diameter. Pioneer usually makes a decent speaker. You may want to look into Rockford/Fosgate... they make some really nice stuff!

    I'm hoping thats sarcasm.

Alpine, Hertz, MTX, Rockford Fosgate, Phoenix Gold to name a few are good brands to buy in car audio.

If you don't want to install a subwoofer put in 6 x 9's for some bass.

I've always been pleased with factory speakers. It's just a car.

I don't really do that either. It just has to work. I guess I don't mind buying good stuff TO START, but I have a major issue replacing something that still works (i.e., car speakers). I guess maybe you could count my VCR upgrades. Then again "work" may have been a loose term for the units that were replaced.

Anyway, good luck. I'm the wrong guy to talk to about car audio.

I agree there. A car is just about the worst acoustic environment ..especially when the car is moving. You have wind, outside noise, resonances, harmonics, mechanical noise, road noise, a substandard listening position, smooth glass surfaces, generally smaller speakers than a home stereo ...terrible :P

My current car came with a good (for a factory system) sound setup. It's a Chrysler Infinity sound system with CD/cassette/radio, a joystick position adjustment, about 12 speakers all over the inside. It sounds decent ...for a car. But that's the catch ...the best car system doesn't ever have a prayer of sounding better than the best home system. Ever.

Some guys drive around in little shitbox 20 year old Toyotas and have a $5,000 sound system .....just to get it to sound like a mediocre home system ...and they cruise around all night, pissing me off by playing rap that I can hear through their closed windows and my closed house windows, at 2am ...waking me from my sleep and causing me to reflexively rack a round into the chamber of my 10mm and go out on the deck with hatred in my eyes and a twitchy trigger finger

But ... I digress My point is that it seems foolish to try to make a car sound perfectly ...physics works against that, and ....when it gets nice enough, the odds are very good that it will disappear ...like glock's car just did :P

You may want more powerful speakers 20 watt is really low. I would not put anything that less than 50 watt but you will need amplifier for that. I always hear that Alpine is good very high end components. I not upgraded my speakers yet still factory!

  10. Alpine are good but you pay alot for the name. I've got 6" Alpine competition splits in my front and Alpine coaxials in the back. Do a really good job.

I've got about $5,000 of audio equipment in my car but thats mainly because I like listening to my music without things like distortion. When I used to help out a custom car place their was a 1998 Honda Civic with $80,000 of car audio stuff in there. The guy couldn't insure it.

The main trick when buying car audio is to bargain as much as possible. Some of the mark ups are huge on the stuff.
