How can I extract an AC3 audio stream from an AVI file as is? ie. without decoding it and then having to save as or re-encode to another format like WAV?

What I'd like to do is take the AC3 file out of the AVI and then use it again as the audio track for authoring a DVD. Is that possible? The only way I know of doing it thus far involves re-encoding the track again as either AC3 or MP2 - but that involves a loss of quality of course.

Is there a way of demuxing AVI files into the audio and video components?

Virtualdubmod, open the avi, go to streams > stream list, select stream, click demux.
    If in doubt, Google it.
