    This has baffled me for a while now. Whenever I put in a CD/DVD, no matter what format it is, it ALWAYS makes my computer lock up for about 8-10 seconds. Is this normal?? I understand it's accessing the disc but lockup the computer?? I guess I've gotten used to it. All the nero/burning apps are disabled and windows explorer is set to "Take No Action".

    There is a slight system busy state while it mounts and inspects the media, but it should only be a few seconds, and it should just keep explorer busy.

    8-10secs of total system lock seems excessive, but may be the nature of your hardware.
