  1. When I capture my video from my DV camcorder, it is in mpeg 1 format. Can this be burned to DVD or do I have to convert it to mpeg 2.

Do I gain any quality in converting it to mpeg 2?

Thanks, I know these are basic, but I can't seem to figure them out.

    Hi Dantart,

Use the latest (beta 2.52 I believe) version of GSpot (freeware) to get the details on your MPEG1.

If they match any of the valid details in the "What Is... DVD" (top left of the page) specs then you're good to go.

If not, you'll need to do some work.

My suspicion is that the resolution and framerate will be OK, but the audio is may not be the require 48,000Hz (48KHz).

    No problem.

Yes. Read up in the guides section. The MPEGs have to be valid - see the specs I referred you to above.

    I agree...

A DV camcorder directly encodes to DV format and stores that on tape.
Standard technique (for highest picture quality) is to directly transfer the DV material from the tape to the hard drive (DV tape to DV-AVI file). Set Nero-Nerovision to DV format. Files will be approx 13.5GB per hour.

Next edit your material in DV format and only then, encode and author the MPeg2 DVD. Follow the Nero instructions.

Other, lower quality paths to a DVD exist.
