Problem playing VCD

My PC has WinNT 4.0. When I try to play VCD using Windows Media Player 6.4, it can play the first few .dat files but while trying to play the last .dat file, it gives an error like "No combination of filters could be found to render the stream.". When I play the same VCD in Xine player on Linux 7.1, it is perfectly alright. Give me idea about the right player I have to use. For some other VCD, WMP gives error messages like "Cannot open. Please verify that the path and filename are correct and try again. (Error=80040216)". Please help me.

Dont get hassled cause you cant play it, download VCDGear from utilities section and convert .dat to .mpg, then tell me if it works good luck!

I have a similar problem. I tried using VCDGear, but it won't convert past a certain point. VCDGear will just stay at that mark for a long, long time without moving.
