    Physical Format Information (ADIP):
    Disc ID: MAXELL-002-00
    Book Type: DVD+R
    Part Version: 1

I'm in love. I've gone through about 500 of these. Although I definately have no complaints about the 8x (burnable at 16x) TY +R's...These just seem better to me...never had any complaints from either, however. These just scan slightly better... Too bad no way to guarantee if I'm getting TY or MXL branded retail.

Anyone know if any online retailers carry mxl branded +R Printables?

Ended up trying some of these Maxell branded because Smurf made some good remarks about them..However, I'm not overly fond of the maxell -R's, as TY is still my goto for -R media...had 3-4 coasters with some RG02 MXL's... (granted that was out of about 250 burns..and 2 of them was probably just due to the fact I was running TMPGEnc while burning...(Normally dosnt hurt things, as I dont burn from the same HD I decode to etc, but I'll give'm the benefit of a doubt.))

These are personally the best scans I've ever done on any media burned at any speed...and I do a lot of testing on new media ID's when I get my hands on them, several discs for consistency, same discs with the same scans multiple times and such...

Like I said..never had problems with TY or MXL...but I just think these Kprobes are soo pretty, heh heh.

Ride it while you got it. Buy many of them now, don't expect the discs to ever be the same next time. But cross your fingers and hope.

I've always felt Maxell and TY were about even. Some burners tend to like MXLRG03 better than TYG02 (Pioneer and LG burners spring to mind) but you *generally* can't go wrong either way, although some of the Fujifilm YUDEN000T02 discs have been problematic. I think TY had some mediocre batches for a while there.

I still have burn rings on my TY's from the clearanced Fuji that was in box/jewels at Officemax. And then the MXL's TY from Walmart, same thing. Burn rings.

My Pioneer 105 is the ONLY drive that burns them okay.

Not quite as good as the NEC burns, but my 812S (using Sony 700A firmware) didn't do too badly with them:

Those are still pretty. I get scans like those only when I burn at 2.4x. Where these at 8x?

You're getting inkjet's, right? Those were fine for me too. It's these branded ones (Fuji, Maxell) I've gotten that are sometimes imperfect.

Staples, Office Depot and Wal-Mart should have these discs as Maxell 8x DVD+R, made in Japan. There may be other retailers as well.

I got some of the Maxell RG02's (2x, 4x), and burned at 4x, I get some high spikes (like a 208 PIF, single spike, maybe a couple others at aroudn 60ish), and PI spikes very similar, as well. But I think it just might be the liteon 832, as all DVD-R media seems to do this, except TY media..It plays back flawlessly though, and backs up with no errors, as well.

In general, I really have no preference as to + or - R, as long as it's high quality stuff...main reason I get TY +R's, is the firmware I'm using with the NEC 3500, lets me burn these at 16x, and i've never had a single problem with one yet.. (My firmware only lets me burn the -R Yuden's at 12x)..not really a big difference in time, honestly, though.

I know smurf is very -R only... I'm just very high-quality only..couldnt care less about the -+R war.

By the way..everytime I get maxell -R 8x media..it ends up being TYG02..how do you get RG03? Anything that tells it apart from the TYG02? I'd like to try some...post the scans etc.. (If you check my posts..probably 50% of them have been various media scans etc)..have a pretty good collection of screens going.

Now, I know why I haven't used these: they ain't cheap. They are about a $ a piece at Wally World. My Ricohs were only $0.30 and if I burn at 2.4x, I get scans just as good as these. If I burn at 8x my scans are still below the problem level.

    RG03 is brown, not yellow.
    RG02 ... luck.
50 and 25 packs tend to be TY.
15 and jewel tends to be MXL

I didn't know Maxell was supplying TYG02 for some of its 8x DVD-R media. Well, if you want to be able to tell them apart look for the Taiyo Yuden serial number on the discs, they start with GGxxxxx. The number will be visible from certain angles in the light and will be backwards as it's actually printed on the dye side of the disc but visible from the top. BTW lordsmurf I got a 50 disc spindle of the 8x -Rs and they are MXLRG03. I bought them at a local Sears.

You cannot read the spindles. That styrofoam thing blocks it. I know that too.

Yeah, the BROWN 50's are MXLRG03
All the 8x browns are (that I have seen).

Hrm, I could have sworn I was able to see the TY serial on the 25 packs. I know one way to tell MXL from TY is to look at the center of the disc; TY discs have a dark ring around the center while the Maxells don't. It's kind of hard to explain without pictures.

Does anyone know where I'd be able to obtain spindles of White Inkjet Printable Maxell-002 +R media reliably?

Thanks Smurf. They have the -R's, but not +R's that I see...and at over a buck a pop, ouch, heh heh. I'll probably just stick with Yuden printables for discs I sell, and buy bulk of the media when I see a good sale of non-printable for myself.. (I personally dont even back many movies up, so it's no big thing, heh.)

And this is off-topic.. But can ayone recomend a good new DV cam that matches value/price evenly?

I've got some TYG02. Lemme see if I can get a good scan or two and post it here

Edit: I used a POS Visioneer flatbed scanner, and it has always had reflection problems scanning shiny silver things, but here are the TYG02 scans:

Heh...I never noticed that before...but the Maxell's DO have a ring..just not *nearly* as pronounced.

    Seth

BTW: Posting my scans now on the Maxell RG02's in a new thread...will post the link here in a sec for those interested.
