  1. I posted a couple of months ago for help, having been frustrated with getting home video onto DVD. After receiving some great advice and putting in a lot of effort, I have succeeded in creating my first home DVD. I just wanna say thanks. Thanks to everyone who contributed and offered support. Special thanks to Daamon, whose guidance I followed closely. Here's a brief summary of what I did.
    1. Videotaped in Digital8 format
    2. Sent video into computer with a firewire
    3. Captured and then edited video using Ulead VideoStudio 8.0
    4. Encoded video with TMPGEnc 2.521 (I finally got it to work!)
    5. Created audio WAV file with Ulead V.S.
    6. Converted WAV file to AC3 file using ffmpeggui
    7. Authored and burned using TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5 (trial version).

Here is my question. I am planning to purchase the TMPGEnc DVD Author, but before I do I would like to know what authoring programs can author when given separate audio and video files? I have NERO 6.0 with all the latest updates, and it doesn't appear that it can support separate A/V files. Or am I missing something obvious? Same with the Ulead VideoStudio or SonicMyDVD which I also own. How can someone know before purchasing authoring program if it supports separate A/V?

Thanks again for the great help.

If you have separate A/V streams, all it takes is a multiplexing tool to join them to form an MPEG file, so that quickly gets around any issues you might have with programs accepting them.

But, as mentioned, TMPGEnc DVD Author will accept them as is
    If in doubt, Google it.

DVD Lab/Pro prefers working with seperate streams. Also has a 30 day trial. Not as simple to get into, but more powerful once you get the hang of it.

In fact, I think most authoring apps (I don't count Nero into this category of applications...) take elementary streams - there are however some that don't take system streams (DVDAuthorGUI for one)!

    Add IFOEdit to that list
    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. I've been trying to figure out what a multiplexing tool is. Can you tell me what one is and what software is good at it? If it's easy and effective, I'd like to join the M2V and AC3 files so that I can hopefully use Nero 6 which I already own. If not I'll shell out the bucks for TMPGEnc DVD Author. Thanks.

Joining video and audio to one file. Also called "Mux".
All it means is it takes the separate streams and joins them to form an MPEG file.

You mentioned you have TMPGEnc 2.521. If you go to file > MPEG Tools > Simple Multiplex, you can mux in there.
    If in doubt, Google it.

No, thank you for taking the trouble to post back with your method for others to start with. And, I can't help but say, thank you for the personal mention. Hence the ...

Read your PM - I have a request to make of you... Call it payback...
