Here's the situation:
I cannot use the fast forward/fast rewind (etc.) options on my Philips 711 standalone with my burnt SxVCD (encoded with TMEG). If I do use them, the movie goes back tot the beginning.
I've tried many things to make it work:
- Scandata.dat
- Nero, BlindWrite, CDROA
- cue/bin method with TSCV
However, none seemed to work.
Do I have to make sequence headers, or something?
How can I do that?
Please help this newbie!

I have the same problem with my old player (grundig), now I've a pioneer and everything is ok, I think it depends from the software of the player.
You can also try to lower the bitrate, maybe it works ... -
Hello,
I have the same problem. Apparently, if you update your firmware, the problem will be fixed. Firmware update can be found at: http://www.home.zonnet.nl/jeroenverhaar/en/vervolgindex/downloads_page2.htm
Do it at your own risk.
I was not able to do it on mine, because the multizone has been made by a prom (instead of a remote control hack).
Please post the result !

Thanks for your help!
I have succesfully updated the firmware (7.12). However, I'm still unable to fast/forward etc.
I made my DVD-player regionfree using a remote control hack. Maybe that's the reason it doesn't work.
Perhaps it is just impossible in any way to be able to fast forward etc. on a Philips DVD-player. Anyway, I've given up hope.

Maybe it works if I use newer firmware (7.22), I tried to download it from http://www.ianc.net However, the firmware wasn't available for downloading. Does anyone know where else I can download Philips 711 firmware 7.22???
With this firmware it should be possible to fast forward SVCD, right??? But then the PDC(?) setting has to be altered as well? What does this settting mean exactly?
I also read that the dvd-player becomes compatible with mp3 cd's after updating the firmware (7.22) Is this true??? -
I've been able to ff/rew on my SxVCDs and I also have a Philips 711. I use TMPGENC ver 0.11.28.112, Sefy's SxVCD for NTSC film basic, and Nero 5.5.2.4.
Oh, and about that flashing stuff, make sure you're not using the firmware for the 710. I did that once, and it really screwed up my player for a while. Somehow the repair shop got it back to normal.
Actually, to be honest, I can't remember if I could ff/rew SxVCDs before or after the repair.

Since SxVCD isn't really an official format, and it's rather amazing it works on so many DVD models, you can excpect some problems, since you are not able to fast forward, have you thought of trying to use Chapters ? this way atleast you can skip to the next chapter in the movie.

Thanks for your suggestion. However, I already tried making chapters with TSCV, but then my DVD-player wouldn't accept the XSVCD at all. (I tried burning with Nero and BlindWrite) The .cue file that was created was no good either. I had to change all the chapters manually.
Anyway, I got hold of the latest firmware (7.22), which I tried instantly, but my DVD-player gave a DLA(?) error, everytime I tried updating. What have I done wrong?
