  1. I bought a LVW 5005 from Costco recently. After a few recordings i noticed one of them had a jitter problem randomly within it.
So I tried upgrading to the latest firmware from the Liteon web site.
I got this file LNFA1091.ESU from the Liteon web site and upgraded
the firmware. This seemed to work ok for a few days but today
    again the jitter problem resurfaced.
Is this a problem with this particular unit? Is it worth trying to exchange
for another unit or do all Liteons 5005 have this problem?
I previously used a Liteon 5001 (Akai DVDRW 120) for a few months and never had this jitter problem.

    thanks

They all have this issue, 5001-5005, etc. It's caused by bad source.

  3. not necessarily caused by bad source, I have had a similar problem tested several discs and the problem seems to be with mpeg audio, PCM,DTS and AC3 are fine but mpeg audio is a problem.

LiteOn's only record MP2, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

lordsmurf i think you've got it, liteon's only record MP2, people are having jitter problems with their own recordings, I have created svereal DVD's using svcd2dvd with mp2 audio and I have problems too, I did a test recently, I took an SVCD, authored it with svcd2dvd with AC3 sound, burned it on the R/w that came with my player and also on a bulkpaq dvd-r and it was fine. I then took the same SVCD and encoded using mp2 audio, burned on a -r and the r/w and hey presto! audio jitters. I have lots of similar DVD's on different media, created using different software and the majority of the mp2 audio disks suffer some issues, some are worse than others but the problem is there. It seems to me that bad source is in no way the problem, and is probably some manufacturer cop out. I have since returned my liteon and got a 4kus dvr-230 (uk version of ILO writer in walmart) and have the same issues, I tested the disks on my friends phillips dvd-recorder and they were fine, the 4kus/ilo is manufactured by liteon so the problem must be with liteon, it could probably be fixed with a firmware update. I suspect it is an issue with some sort of MP2 error correction with the players software. Anyway I hope that enlightens you.

This is not a problem with the Liteon 5101 from SAMS CLUB.

I use the LiteOn 5001 as a primary player for many, many discs. Never had trouble with any of them, regardless of audio type. It's probably one of the most reliable players I have ever seen.

  8. I returned my LVW 5005 to Costco and got another one and it has the same problem ! I don't think the problem is source or media related. I have seen it happen on several different media types. (RICOHJPN, CMC, Ritek R03 etc). Also, I have successfully recorded the same movie which had the jitter problem when I recorded it before. (from satellite TV through S-Video and audio inputs on back of recorder)
I have stopped using write once media with the LVW 5005. I use +RW media and then check if the recording is OK. If so I copy to write once media on my DVD burner.

  9. Listen... i'm having this problem too. It happens in every mode (HQ, SP, SLP...) and on any type of media (r, rw, -, +). Made i few tests and found out that the jitters will appear earlier when i record in SLP mode. I also put a domestik fan blowing on the machine and it did made the jitter go off. And with all i've seen over several forum, this look like an heating problem...

Someone said he posted his LVW 5005 to Liteon saying it had a jitter problem. They sended a new unit with a more effective fan and an heatsink over the CPU... so i guess they know the problem but wont recall their units from WALMART and COSTCO....
