    Join the club.

My father - in-law constantly installs junk like that.

We had it out some time ago and I do not fix their computer any more.

  5. My wife is normally great about this, but installed this app. I thoguht it was actually kind of neat until I visited a site one day that put other spyware on my comp. I got the tools, and realized that smiley central is a demon from hell, spawning tons of crap.

To finally clean my computer took a multi-pronged attack from no less than four anti-spyware apps and an anti-virus.

I swear my brother seemed to install every piece of crap software he can find on the net. I built him a new machine, XP, SP2, firewall AVG antivirus, Spybot, Adaware, Spyware Blaster and a few others. Now he has difficulty putting that stuff in so I succeeded somewhat. I have thought about setting up his computer so I could clean it out remotely so I wouldn't have to come by every week.

I guess there is only so much you can do to warn people.

My aunt installed this shit! Later, when I had to remotely fix her machine, one of the damn toolbars was floating over a dropdown box I needed to get to, and can't be moved!

She also doesn't want her drive re-imaged because she'll lose all her hearts scores.

    Old people and computers.....

If you're over 30 there should be a bi-annual test required that issues a restricted access license to use any device that's more complex than a car's key fob.

It's nothing personal I'll be 30 in a few years, and then I'd need one too. Also, nobody below 21 allowed on the internet, period.

How about just a test of whether or not you can set the clock on your vcr??? If you can do that than you can use the internet!

I remember back a couple of months ago, there was talk of people needing a license to be on the net.

We could have the net as it exists now, then a net for people who are licenesed. It would be devoid of spam, spyware, etc.

Wait a minute! I can't set the clock on my vcr. Although, I bought one that self sets off the cable signal. Problem is that I don't have the cable hooked to it! Luckily, it doesn't flash.

I can however, write you an analog or digital clock program for your computer in 30 minutes.

Clocks have nothing to do with using the internet!

I'm just providing an intelligence test possibility - looks like we'd get one user off the net!

My wife is like a raccoon with a shiny object ..if it looks cool she'll install it. She frequents an online gaming site and her PC is constantly getting viruses (virii?), adware, spyware, and cookies.

She is now running with system files that somehow got deleted ...no doubt from a virus, and none of the control panel applets will load now. It still runs ...barely, and she doesn't want me to reinstall, for fear she'll lose something

I just had a thought. Is there any way we loyal members could contribute to the collection of smilies we have here? Just look at the wonderful collaborative effort we put into the STFU and WTF Picture Depositories.
