KARLSBAD, GERMANY -- Ahead Software, leaders in digital media technology, in collaboration with Siemssen & Co. GmbH, specialists for technical consumer goods, announced the launch of an innovative new DVD player, the first ever to support video files in the Nero Digital format for use in home movies.
Siemssen and Ahead have jointly developed a hardware product that can now display video files coded in Nero Digital (MPEG-4) straight onto your TV screen in the same high quality you've come to expect...

  2. Is that a mis-spelled "siemens" (a known brand) or siemssen, a brand like Packard-Bell, trying to leach off the reputation of other Mfrs .

hmm - KISS says they were the first ..

KiSS DVD Players now support Nero Digital files

KiSS Technology’s hard disk recorder DP-558 now supports files in Nero Digital format. The cooperation between KiSS Technology and Nero AG expands the functionality of KiSS’ products opening up new dimensions in the world of digital video for the users while playing back Nero Digital files in the highest quality.

KiSS Technology’s DP-558 hard disk recorder truly leaves nothing at all to be desired with direct access to PC files, live television, unlimited, comfortable recording of TV programmes as well as online applications such as WebRadio and online games that can be enjoyed on the television screen. Integrating Nero Digital makes it easy for the users to experience the file formats live on TV with the DP-558: Simply install the Nero Recode 2 CE DVD transcoding software on the PC. Convert any existing video file into the Nero Digital format, and the user can already play these back on the DP-558. The special network functions of the product enable a connection between the DP-558 and a PC or Mac. Favourite Nero Digital files can be stored and played back on the hard disk recorder itself, by means of its integrated 80 GB hard disk, without having to turn on the PC or having to burn and insert a CD or DVD. The user only needs to key the IP address of the DP-558 into the Internet browser of the PC to view the entire content of the hard disk of the hard disk recorder. Finally, the user can simply copy all the audio, video and picture files onto the DP-558 and rename them all on the hard disk from the PC. And all television programs that have already been recorded can be transferred and copied onto a DVD on the PC just as easily with Nero Digital.

"We are proud to have been able to fit out our latest product with the Nero Digital standard and, in this way, to have supported the best and most complete solution for audio and video codec worldwide," said Martin Manniche, COO principal of KiSS Technology. "Using the DP-558 our customers get the right solution for their home cinemas and can, for example, process their favorite video material on their PCs and, without any perceivable loss in quality, easily view this on their television screens."

"We are pleased with our cooperation with KiSS Technology," emphasizes Jim Corbett, Executive Director of Nero. "The enormous growth of Nero Digital(TM), also into playback products, serves to strengthen our leading role in the area of digital media technology."

I would imagine that any firmware-upgradeable MPEG4-capable player would be eventually Nero digital ready.

Of course, why on earth would one use Nero Digital anyway?

I'm with Gurm on this, I think I'll just stick with the "regular" DVD format.

  10. I encoded a ton of stuff into Nero Digital, I think it's a superb looking codec. To my eyes, It's better than DivX or XviD, so I'd love to eventually obtain a ND supported DVD player. That's awesome. I just wish my DVP-642 played it

  11. Hi

the H&B DX-3255 DVD & MPEG-4 Player apparently will handle nero digital

I emailed the sales manager and he affirmed the player can handle these files.

I have re-mailed the guy to make sure absolutely, positively, that this player will handle NDF as many players handle mpeg4 without handling nero's version of same.

Will post back when I recieve reply
