  1. Anyone going the broadcast only lifestyle (and more who use HDTV over the air)?

When I moved to FL, I got exd. basic cable to start. Not sure which sat service I that I might want to go to. My cable has the same stuff as the basic findings on Dish, Voom or Directv. (Digital Cable sucks too bad to even think about uping the service)

But I can't help thinking to myself, 85 to 90 % of what we watch can be found over the air. There are only a hand full of stations that we watch and at best only a few shows on them) For 500.00 I can get two HDTV receiver for OTA broadcasts and they would be paid for within a little over a year. I live 28 miles from all of the HDTV broadcast antennas without tall bulidings to get in the way. I should think that I could pull them in with a good HDTV UHF VHF antenna.

True, I would miss certain networks (FX, SciFi, Comedy Central and HBO's in house shows) but its such as waste off money to pay for so much of something I don't use.
Even the movie networks are getting to be a joke. They play one good / new moive to death or junk movies. I have either seen the movie and don't like it, or I own it.

So, who here on this site is watching broadcast only and how do you like it? Do you watch "cable stuff" at another house, watch recordings or DVD releases, or get it through the Dark Side.

    Hello,

I don't have cable/satellite and have never had it. So I only miss not being able to watch some sports and the SCI FI channel. Though I think I'd like HGTV too

(too cheap to fork over the dough, I just finally got DSL so I don't throw it around too much - except for Star Wars )

I'm a card-carrying satellite guy (it's hard to eat dinner while I'm orbiting the house). Every time Pam turns on network OTA TV I cringe :P

I remember when the cable went out for a week.

All I watch all day is CNN, TNT, TBS, USA, FX, FOX News Channel, Weather Channel, Discovery Channel, Cartoon Network, and History Channel. The only broadcast I see is Seinfeld, Fraiser, and some Simpsons.

Oh, yeah, I know. I got the Seinfeld with the three seasons, script, napkin dispenser, and ketchup and mustard thingy. I still love watching them on TV, though.

I dropped cable over a year ago. The only thing I miss is South Park. I can get those on DVD (eventually). Otherwise it's a waste of money and I'll probably be getting more channels once I get HDTV (whenever that might be). I was OL with basic cable until they dropped so many channels from the cable lineup (happenned twice) plus one small rate increase.
