Some one help me with my problematic NEC 3500

I'm having alot of problem with this drive here are the list

Burn teon 8X disc at 4X max (this problem is related to the 2nd problem) teon disc are prodisc media code

it automaticly turns on riplock, I flashed it with the dangerous brother 2.17 firmware "3500FAST.EXE", and for some stupid reason it keep locking back the drive after a couple burns with DVD dycryptor or nero, and after that i can only rip at 2X up to 5X max. If i flash it again, then it'll be unlock and i can rip up to 15X.

It burns 4X disc at 4.1X, always, this is annoying that telling me that somethings is wrong.

INFO: the drive is on cable select, i'm not sure if that's the problem, but i'll try to swap it back and see if it'll work normally. it's quite annoying with this many problem on a supposely "very good drive".

plz help me, i'm desprerate.

I have the same drive and so far it works well for me. As for ripping my drive seems to top off at 4X to perhaps 6X but then I use a LiteOn DVD drive to rip at speeds up to 15X.

I would check or try the following.
1: In device manager make sure the IDE and drive are in DMA mode.
2: Put the drive on the secondary IDE as a master.
3: Make sure you're using an ATA 133 cable for the drive and not an ATA 66 cable.

One final thought, since DVDR media is cheap these days I only use the best media like TY, Sony, TDK, and well you get the idea.

the media is quite good, before the riplock automaticly turn itseft on, i was able to burn it at 8X and read back at 15X, but when the riplock turn itself on all i can do is burn at 4X and read at 5X. i'm using a round IDE cable, and that might be the problem, i'm gonna try and swap to another cable and see if that still happen.

i just checked and it seems that nero has something to do with it, if i fired up nero to do some data burning, the ripping speed will drop right after that, does this happen to anyone else?

it seems that something trigger the ziplock, i just don't know what the hell it is, but every time that i restarts, the riplock unlock itself again, does any one know what the hell do this?
