Please describe the method you use, and why you think it works.
I finally have a couple of systems for color-correcting VHS caps that I'm really happy with.

1) For doing the filtering before the cap, I go from a 9911 to a TBC and then to the SignVideo DR-1000 detailer and also their Proc Amp and then to a distribution box that sends the filtered signal to an analog capture card, an analog to DV box, a JVC-DR10M and a Sony video monitor.

2) For doing the filtering after the cap on the PC, I use Vegas's DV (Firewire) to external video monitor function to send the video directly and instantly to the Sony monitor with no need to render first (programs like Movie Studio and Movie Edit Pro require you to render the video first).

This enables me to see the results of my filtering in realtime as I'm actually making the adjustments. I can also use Vdub filters in Vegas and it's really nice to be able to tweak parameters and actually see them changing as you tweak them rather than having to tweak them and then go out of the filter mode and play back the video before seeing them as you often have to do in VDub.

Some VDub filters do have a preview mode but unless you use an external monitor (and not via a scan converter!) you have to guestimate the color-correction on the duller different-gamma PC monitor.

Having the direct access to the external video monitor also means that what I see is exactly what my final DVD will look like color and brightness-wise so there's no longer any need for test DVDs just to see if I got it right.

Works really well for me. YMMV.
