A newbie needs some forum members' advice. After familiarize myself with the possibilities of VCD, several questions still come to mind. Say one downloads a streaming asf file with less than desirable resolution size. How does this resolution size translate when converting into VCD? Plus, what size does the home DVD unit play these files? Does one have tiny box on the TV or full size; How distracting is the resolution degradation? Well, my question really revolve around if you start for a streaming source; then how much can one improve it to view it on television; or should one just view in the asf format on a computer. Let me know if I should waste my time with the conversion process.

  2. ASF is very similar to DivX (DivX is the hacked version of microsofts MPEG4 codecs, which are used in the ASF format), unfortunately, even when these files at DVD resolutions are converted to VCD the quality isn't the best (macroblocks). On top of that increasing resolution from a very small source to VCD is always going to be less than ideal. ASF is also not the best format, and at streaming bitrates won't convert well. DVD players play the video fullscreen, but if you go this route I think you'll be put off what is actually a very nice format.
