  1. The video looks great but the audio is like the chipmunks! Tried it several times, rebooted etc. Running 0.0.9q

    Thanks for any advice,

    Dave

  2. I thought I would try the dvd preset for mpeg2enc but it fails immediately. So i've struck out on both counts.

  3. Is your input audio ac3 stereo?

About your second post, your quicktime is probably unable to play mpeg-2 (try by opening your movie in Quicktime Player) due to missing mpeg-2 quicktime component.

  4. If it is ac3 stereo, select also ac3 stereo (not 5:1) on output.

  5. Same thing happens to me :o((

I've a Divx movie with ac3 (a52) 448 Kb/s, 48000 Hz and 5 channels (plus LFE), and when trying to extract only the audio track (I would create a dvd with DVD Studio Pro 3), with every setting I choose (each size of Kb/s, and both ABR, CBR or VBR), but always with the 5:1 channels and 48000Hz options on, the result is a fastfowarded audio file (a 1:51:04 file becomes a 1:31:26 file)...

What can I do mr. major ?
Is ffmpeg able to exctract a 5.1 channels ac3 file ?
    Ty in advance!

    Strange. What bitrates are you people using? I usually just use the Passthrough function on my AVI AC3s 'cause I usually end up with lower volume when trying to lower the bitrate. Never had the Chipmunks effect though. If you look at A.Pack, which is a pretty good AC3 encoder, you'll find the available bitrates are;
    3/2
    224-448
    2/1
    96-448
Try using one of those bitrates. Or just change the Audio Codec to Passthrough. You will have to manually add the .ac3 extension to the output if you use Passthrough. And there aren't any Mode settings in A.Pack, I'd stick with CBR.

I just did a Passthrough then an encode of the same AVI AC3, no Chipmunks, but, I had forgotten about the 'other' objection to re-encoding. I always get lower volume and it also seems that more volume is coming from the right speaker. Do the Passthrough if you want to save the AVI's AC3

  7. Thanks TugBoat, I've resolved the problem!

I've made as you told me: encoded audio with the Passtrough option, and I got a perfectly working audio in 5:1 ac3!

    Thanks again.
    Best regards, Cett1
