I first started capturing on my Leadtek TV2000 XP Deluxe using their bundled PVR program, Winfast, with the latest drivers and updates. I was very unhappy with the captures I was getting from the software after burning them to SVCD. I tried a capture last night with a trial version of Intervideo's WinDVD. Capturing in the same resolution, 480x480 and a bitrate constant at 2200, the difference is night and day, I mean not even close!! The WinDVD capture is getting darn close to the source, and the Winfast PVR capture is very pixelated, and just looks horrible. I've cloned the settings in each program, and the file sizes for a 30 min capture are almost identical. What in the world could be causing the difference? Also, I"m mainly capturing to convert VHS to DVD (just got a dvd burner). What resolution should I be capturing at to retain close to original quality (I guess I'm asking how much resolution/bitrate is too much). I've tried a capture at half D1, and that looks ok. Is that as good as I'm going to get on a S-Video feed from an average VCR? Also, I like capturing directly to mpeg. Should I not be doing this? Any other tips on using Leadtek's PVR? Thanks!
