  1. Especially for MPEG 1. I just used the newest version and must say I think the old 12a looks better at least for MPEG 1. I would like to know what everyone else thinks on the matter.....Maybe I am missing something in the new versions...

  2. I always use the latest, and immediately download the newest versions as they come out. But personally I haven't seen any differences from one version to another. I do, however, keep 12a on hand because it will convert some formats that the newer ones won't (some AVI, WMV, etc).

  3. I'm glad this issue came up, because I've been wondering the same thing. I first started encoding vcd's while using the older versions of TMPGEnc and they seemed to look pretty "clear" as I perfected my method which was Mpeg-1 2pass VBR at approx 1500kbps.

For the last couple of months I've been into encoding divx format and have really enjoyed the results. However, my aunt just bought a DVD player and wanted me to make some VCD's for her so she could watch using her dvd player. I downloaded the "newest" version of TMPGEnc which I think is 2.01 now, and I proceeded to encode the dvd rip (Tombstone) for my aunt. To make a long story short, I really wasn't to pleased with the output, the video looked a little blured, and I used the same methods as I did previously.

Maybe next time I'll stick with the older version and see what results I get. I would appreciate any feedback as well.
