check out the BENQ/PHILLIPS FORUM at cdfreaks.com.I also need recommendations for DVD +R media, that I will bit set to "DVD-ROM" using the BenQ DW1620 writer.
I just ordered the BenQ writer this morning. It should arrive Friday or Saturday depending on if it ships out today or tomorrow. I am excited about getting a new toy!

Accidently stumble on this thread...
It sounds like a dirty player lense to me if your burner plays them well. I have similar problems with some burnt discs (I've been doing this since VCD time...), after I run the disc clean the laser it will have no problem playing again. When was the last time you cleaned your player? Ever?
The older the player the dirtier the laser lense, hence more skipping, freezing, etc. with burnt discs. Of course quality of discs matter as well. I got three set top players that often times I switch the problem disc to a different player it will solve the problem. Try clean the player first. -
Well, the players were not that old. They played all comercial DVDs perfectly fine, but did awful things when trying to play the DVDs I would burn.
What I really needed was a DVD burner that would burn at near comercial quality, because I wanted that any player that plays comercial DVDs could play my burnt DVDs.
