    I have this program that will make just the dvd movie into a divx file. But the only audio you can get it PCM. But after im encoding the file to divx is there any other software that will let me change the PCM audio to lets say AC3 or MP3?

  2. Almost all sound tools can do MP3, but not AC3, such LAME, BeSweet, SoundForge. Some DVD author tools have AC3 transcoders.

    What program do you have that's doing this? It doesn't make any sense to compress the video with DivX and then waste the savings by including uncompressed PCM audio. Most DivX files have MP3 audio. MP3 encoders are a dime a dozen and your program should be doing it.

    install lame mp3
    open the video in virtualdub
    choose video->direct stream copy ( the video will not be converted then)
    choose audio->full processing
    choose audio->compression and select lame mp3 and an audio bitrate
    last select file->save as.
    done.

    I have this program that will make just the dvd movie into a divx file.

    That's what I said in my 1st post. Im not trying to change the audio of divx file that i already have. What im doing is with a program it takes a dvd and changes it into divx format. The only audio you can select is PCM.

    What I would like to know is how can I change the audio in the divx file i made into mp3.

    I take you cant change the audio format on a divx that wasnt encoded by myself. Meaning if i download a divx movie off the net. With Virtualdub i cant change the audio?

    128 is generally OK, but go 192 if you want it a little better.

    Either use those figures above or do a small sample encode of a minute or so and make up your own mind as to which one is better for you
    If in doubt, Google it.
