  1. Hi,
I got a 40pk Teon DVD+R 8x from Staples during the black friday sale. (Media code is CMC MAG E01). This media code is listed under the "Extra DVD list" in the recommended list for Liteon 5005.
When I recorded on it using my Liteon 5005, some of the Teon discs don't play on other DVD players. However they play well on the Liteon 5005.
(I have already upgraded the firmware with the latest version from the Liteon web site.)
I have previously recorded discs with CMC media codes CMC MAG R01(Khypermedia brand) and CMC MAG F01 (HP brand) and they seem to work ok with other DVD players.
Can anyone post their experience with using the Teon DVD+R 8x media with Liteon 5005?

    thanks

CMC Discs suck! Try TaiyoYuden made in Japan.

  3. I have burned alot of Teon discs. I have had no coasters in 200+ burns. I have very pleased with these discs so far but I have heard there may be problems as they age.

As to the problem of not playing on some dvd players. I have found about 60% play in my Toshiba, with no idea if they will or not before trying them, but all play in my burner and on 3 differnt Sony dvd players.

  4. I've got the -R discs in trades twice. Some work, some don't. The ones that do play have bad spots in them. Nothing I'd ever waste my money on.

Don't know about the -R's, but the +R's I've bought in the past worked great on every player they seen (at least 20 different players) and perfect burns so far. It seems the media code is different with each disk I check. Sometimes it's CMC, sometimes MCC and sometimes it's a new code that DVDInfo doesn't recognise. The ones I've burned 5 months ago still work great.

    (edit - I didn't burn using a Liteon, sorry)

All in all, I like them for the price. The're on sale again 20 for $4.99 @ Staples.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

  7. I found that the Teon DVD+R 8x had unreliable results with my LVW 5005.
Some of the discs recorded on using LVW 5005 could not be ripped on my NEC 3500 burner or Liteon DVD-ROM while others did not have this problem.
However, Teon DVD+R 8x burnt using NEC 3500A dont have any problem. So I have stopped using this media on the LVW 5005 and use it only with my NEC 3500A.

    My definition of coaster:

A disc that will not play in my DVD player through no fault of the data contained on the disc, but with the disc itself.

Sounds like you had more coasters than you thought
