I have a few xVid files and now for some reason they dont play. Whenever I play them with Windows Media player or with DivX media player, it crashes and reports and "unexpected error" has occured.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Windows media player 9, Xvid and DivX with no luck! Theese used to play fine, so dont know what's gone wrong lately?! They also play fine in my DivX player.

    Any ideas?

  2. Have you installed ffdshow filter? AC3 filter? These are required for many new XVid files. It seems that DivX player doesn't use DirectShow filter at all, at least in my computer, so it has problems playing DS-only XVid files. Use WMP10 or other players, such as WinDVD, PowerDVD.

FFDSHOW is the way to go...hey, I'm a poet and I'm not cognizant of that fact.

Also, open up the file in GSPOT and see if you have the codecs installed.

Thanks a lot! It was AC3 install... I re-installed and it is fine now.
